With the Pirates placing Ross Ohlendorf on the 15 day DL, the team called up right handed pitcher Daniel McCutchen from Indianapolis.  While Jeff Karstens looks to be the one to take Ohlendorf’s spot in the rotation, McCutchen will be used in long relief situations with the Buccos.

Daniel came to the Pirates in July 2006 from the New York Yankees along with Ohlendorf, Karstens, and Jose Tabata for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.  He made his Major League debut on August 31st of that year.  After spending 2009 in Indianapolis, he was named to the Pirates’ starting rotation in 2010 until being moved to the bullpen in August.  The Yankees drafted him in the 13th round of the 2006 draft.

For his career, he has a 2-7 record with a 5.54 ERA and 42 strikeouts.  McCutchen has a very good opportunity to earn a spot in the bullpen if he is able to pitch well during Ohlendorf’s time on the DL.

And…

As Always…

Let’s Go Bucs!
