Pirates Struggle In Defeat To Mets

One of the reasons why Pirates fans have been optimistic about this season is that even in defeat they have been competitive.  With Charlie Morton on the hill and with the team winning four of six games on this home stand, the vibe was good at PNC Park, before beginning a four game series with the New York Mets.
FFTS Pregame:

Both teams would score in the first inning.  The Pirates would load the bases when Morton hit a batter, walked a batter, and Ronny Cedeno made a fielding error.  This led to an Angel Pagan ground out to Lyle Overbay that scored Justin Turner.  Pittsburgh ended the inning with no further damage.  Three straight hits for the Buccos put them on the board.  Unfortunately this was all the scoring the Pittsburgh offense could muster on this night.
New York would break the game open in the fourth inning with five runs and then add a run in the fifth and sixth inning to put the finishing touches on an 8-1 victory over the Pirates.
Nothing went well for Pittsburgh tonight they committed two errors on defense, were unable to get out Mets batters, and the offense struggled for the third straight game.  A few highlights for the Pirates tonight was that Jose Tabata went 3 for 4 at the plate and Tim Wood made his Major League debut pitching one inning allowing zero hits and one walk.
FFTS Postgame Show:

These two teams will battle again tomorrow night with James McDonald going for Pittsburgh, while New York will counter with R.A. Dickey.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 and will feature a postgame concert with Huey Lewis and the News.
Record vs. Mets:  2-3
Record vs. N.L. East:  6-11
Record at Home:  13-17
Overall Record:  30-32
And…
As Always…
Let’s Go Bucs!!!
